Cold sores, also known as fever blisters, are small, fluid-filled lesions that typically appear on or around the lips and mouth. They’re caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (HSV-1), although HSV-2 (more common in genital herpes) can also be responsible in some cases.
Once infected, the virus stays dormant in nerve cells and can reactivate at any time, especially when your immune system is low or under stress.
Causes of Cold Sores
Common triggers for reactivation include stress, illness, fatigue, sun exposure, hormonal changes, or a weakened immune system. Even minor trauma to the lips or mouth, such as dental work or chapped skin, can prompt an outbreak. Some people may also experience flare-ups due to fever, menstruation, or extreme weather conditions. While HSV-1 is the main cause, in some cases, cold sores can also be triggered by HSV-2, the virus more commonly associated with genital herpes.
Cold sores and inflammation are closely connected. When the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) reactivates, it triggers an immune response that leads to localized inflammation, most often around the lips. This is what causes the familiar redness, swelling, heat, pain, and blistering.
While inflammation is part of the body’s natural defense, a weakened or chronically inflamed system, often influenced by stress, poor diet, lack of sleep, or illness, can make it harder for the body to keep the virus dormant. As a result, outbreaks may become more frequent and take longer to heal.

Mouth ulcers, also known as canker sores, are small, painful sores that appear inside the mouth, often on the inner cheeks, lips, tongue, or gums. Unlike cold sores, they’re not caused by a virus and are not contagious.
They can be round or oval, usually white or yellowish in the center with a red border, and typically heal within 7–14 days.
Causes of Mouth Ulcers
Common triggers include minor injuries such as biting the inside of the cheek, irritation from braces or sharp teeth, or overly vigorous brushing. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly in vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and folate, are also known to contribute to their development. In some cases, food sensitivities, especially to acidic or spicy foods, chocolate, nuts, or gluten, can provoke ulcers.
Stress and hormonal changes are other significant contributors, often lowering the body’s immune response and making the mouth more susceptible to inflammation. Certain ingredients in dental products, like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), may also irritate the mouth lining.
Additionally, recurrent mouth ulcers can be associated with underlying health issues such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, or autoimmune conditions. While most mouth ulcers are harmless and resolve on their own, frequent or severe episodes may warrant further medical evaluation to rule out systemic causes.

I have done a review previously when I started EBS, but I wanted to share another one a year later. I’ve followed Yalda for around a year and a half now. She was the one who inspired me to change my lifestyle and opened up my awareness of foods and the inflammation within the body.

In my younger days, I suffered from continuing migraines, so I took painkillers all the time. Looking back now, with the experience and knowledge you gain as you get older, I realize I was really harming my gut. So, I’ve had problems for about 20 years. Week Four of EBS – Feeling Transformed!
I am on week four of EBS, and I have suffered from chronic inflammation for a very long time. To the point where even my tiny joints would hurt, I would swell until I couldn’t recognize myself, and sadly, I gained over 15 kilos, and it wouldn’t budge no matter what.
My pain disappeared from week one on the platform, and the swelling is completely gone! I’m fitting back into my clothes. The masterclasses and information are unparalleled!

The Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle – A Game Changer!
The anti-inflammatory lifestyle is the best thing that could have ever been introduced to me and has helped me get back on my feet again health-wise.
I have a hiatus hernia, a gallbladder that needs removing as it’s full of stones, and gastrointestinal issues. My surgery has been delayed multiple times due to Covid, and now I’m dealing with weight issues. I love the NHS and respect it fully, but they didn’t take my conditions seriously and couldn’t diagnose me. I had spent a fortune to finally realize what my medical problems were.
I’m thankful that I can live again without pain, without burning my oesophagus, and vomiting after every meal due to acid reflux and the hiatus hernia. I’ve still not received surgery, but my conditions are a lot less.
I’m less puffy and bloated, and I can keep food down. Now, gradually, my weight is coming down as well.

Hi Yalda, I am so grateful for all the work you’ve done on Eat Burn Sleep – you have no idea! About a year ago, I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis (inflammation in the stomach lining) and severe vitamin B12 deficiency because of that, in addition to high blood pressure. Not to mention having constant inflammation and pain in my knee and elbow that never went away, bloating, and always feeling tired.
I followed your Instagram for about 1-2 months before subscribing to the Eat Burn Sleep lifestyle and began slowly changing a few eating habits every day from what I saw and read there. Everything made so much sense, I love that it’s not a diet, and all the research you’ve done is amazing.
After about a month, as the pollen season started, I noticed that I didn’t have any pollen allergy symptoms anymore and could finally stop taking my antihistamines after 7 years of severe pollen allergy. This definitely made me subscribe to the Eat Burn Sleep lifestyle.

I love this platform and the amount of educational content it has everything is based on rigorous scientific research. Yalda is very professional and never gives advice outside her expertise. You can tell she truly loves educating, and watching her masterclasses is actually very nice. One Year Later – A Life-Changing Journey with EBS!
I have done a review previously when I started EBS, but I wanted to share another one a year later. I’ve followed Yalda for around a year and a half now. She was the one who inspired me to change my lifestyle and opened up my awareness of foods and the inflammation within the body.

In my younger days, I suffered from continuing migraines, so I took painkillers all the time. Feeling Lighter and Happier After Just One Week!
I have been on the lifestyle for a little over a week now. Already, I can see a mega difference. I have lost close to 3 kgs, and I feel as light as a feather. I still have a long way to go, but I’m staying positive by taking daily walks.
The plan provides new information every day, and I learn something new constantly. Even though I’m a keen cook who always prepares meals from scratch for my family, Yalda’s recipe ideas have given me lots of food for thought.

Week Four of EBS – Feeling Transformed!
I am on week four of EBS, and I have suffered from chronic inflammation for a very long time. To the point where even my tiny joints would hurt, I would swell until I couldn’t recognize myself, and sadly, I gained over 15 kilos, and it wouldn’t budge no matter what.
My pain disappeared from week one on the platform, and the swelling is completely gone! I’m fitting back into my clothes. The masterclasses and information are unparalleled!

The Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle – A Game Changer!
The anti-inflammatory lifestyle is the best thing that could have ever been introduced to me and has helped me get back on my feet again health-wise.
I have a hiatus hernia, a gallbladder that needs removing as it’s full of stones, and gastrointestinal issues. My surgery has been delayed multiple times due to Covid, and now I’m dealing with weight issues. I love the NHS and respect it fully, but they didn’t take my conditions seriously and couldn’t diagnose me. I had spent a fortune to finally realize what my medical problems were.
I’m thankful that I can live again without pain, without burning my oesophagus, and vomiting after every meal due to acid reflux and the hiatus hernia. I’ve still not received surgery, but my conditions are a lot less.
I’m less puffy and bloated, and I can keep food down. Now, gradually, my weight is coming down as well.
So, I thank you for what you share with the public and for making life worth living again. Because I went to some very dark places before, and I’m happy now.

Life-Changing Journey with Eat Burn Sleep – Grateful Beyond Words!
Hi Yalda, I am so grateful for all the work you’ve done on Eat Burn Sleep – you have no idea! About a year ago, I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis (inflammation in the stomach lining) and severe vitamin B12 deficiency because of that, in addition to high blood pressure. Not to mention having constant inflammation and pain in my knee and elbow that never went away, bloating, and always feeling tired.
I followed your Instagram for about 1-2 months before subscribing to the Eat Burn Sleep lifestyle and began slowly changing a few eating habits every day from what I saw and read there. Everything made so much sense, I love that it’s not a diet, and all the research you’ve done is amazing.
After about a month, as the pollen season started, I noticed that I didn’t have any pollen allergy symptoms anymore and could finally stop taking my antihistamines after 7 years of severe pollen allergy. This definitely made me subscribe to the Eat Burn Sleep lifestyle.
After another month, my blood pressure went down, and I am now off those medications as well. I have lost 4 kg, the pain in my knee and elbow is gone, and I have so much more energy throughout the day.

Control, Confidence, and Progress!
I went out for dinner with friends, and we ordered pizza and pasta. I had one small slice of pizza and just two tablespoons of the El Forno pasta. The best part? My body actually told me when I’d had enough—I knew how to portion my food, even on a cheat meal.
Normally, I would have devoured at least half a pizza and half the bowl of pasta without thinking twice. But this time, I felt comfortable, satisfied, and I didn’t bloat at all.
Later, we went to a dessert place, and I was perfectly happy not having dessert—I wasn’t even craving sugar!
I’ve also gone from 85.1 kg to 78.3 kg in just 7 weeks. I’m feeling strong and ready for another 6 weeks of progress!
