Ingredients

  • Meatballs:
  • 1.8lbs or 800g lean ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 1 cup flat parsley
  • 2 tsp Lebanese 7 spices
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Sauce:
  • 1 can tomatoes or 400g fresh tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1 1/2 cups or 324g bone broth or beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • 2 tsp Lebanese 7 spices
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp pomegranate molasses
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

  1. To make the meatballs, place the meat in a large bowl and add the grated onion, finely chopped parsley, spices, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form meatballs (around 21).

  2. To make the sauce, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat, and add the chopped onion and crushed garlic.

  3. Soften for 5 minutes and add the peeled and cubed sweet potato.

  4. Fry for a couple of minutes on medium heat before adding the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, bone broth, cinnamon, Lebanese 7 spices, sea salt, and pepper.

  5. Bring to a boil and simmer for around 15 minutes over low to medium heat, stirring regularly.

  6. Add the meatballs and drizzle the pomegranate molasses. Partly cover and cook over medium heat for another 30 minutes, gently stirring occasionally.

Serving Tips

This dish is even better when prepared in advance and reheated before serving.
